Dublin 6 West includes Harold’s Cross, Templeogue, Kimmage and Terenure.
The 6W designation is unusual since it’s the only district with this number-letter designation. When in 1985 An Post split this area from Dublin 6, it was meant to have the designation Dublin 26. However the residents objected citing property devaluation: the higher numbered districts typically represented less affluent and less central areas. An Post ultimately relented, and the western part of the district became known as Dublin 6W.
