Dublin City PPN Capacity Building Programme

Purpose of the training|: assist the newly elected Representatives to become familiar with their roles, introduce newly elected Representatives to local authority procedures, discuss the importance of communications within the PPN (between reps/working groups/Secretariat and the local authority). Provide an understanding of the importance of pillar working groups (linkage groups) and discuss the PPN priorities during the next five year term.

Schedule for the in-person training on Friday 29 November

10.00am Introduction & welcome

10.10am           Overview of your Induction Pack, including How to Manual

10.20am           Presentation:

  • What is the Secretariat, SPC (Strategic Policy Committee) and LCDC (Local Community Development Committee)?
  • What is the role of an SPC Representative?
  • What is the role of a Secretariat member?
  • What is the role of an LCDC Representative?
  • What can you achieve as an SPC or LCDC representative, and how can you be most effective?

10.50am           Group Work – flip chart paper & markers on tables.

Ideally people will work together in their pillar groups:

  1. Discuss possible priority areas for your pillar (community & voluntary, environment and social inclusion) that are ambitious, but realistic. 
  2. Try to agree on no more than 3 priority areas, which must be actionable.

11.20am           Feedback from each group

11.30am           Presentation:

Understanding the SPC and LDCD within the Local Authority

Working Groups (Linkage groups)

Communications

  • The different types of communication involved
  • WhatsApp group, active email address etc

  • Feedback
  • Lessons Learnt –
    • Representatives need to realistic and prioritise issues where they want to see change happen, the most effective PPN’s are focused!

12.00pm           Group Work

  1. For the priority areas issues identified during the first group work session, identify how the SPC Representatives and working groups can work together to bring about the desired change?
  2. Can the group identify some action points that would help the SPC Representatives and working group members to get started? 
  3. Discuss communications, and if possible, propose a format during your feedback

12.40pm           Feedback from each group

12.50pm           Sum up of the morning, with a focus on priority areas / action plan

1.00pm              Lunch

2.00pm             Depart for site visit in a mini-bus

2.30pm             Arrive at Cherry Orchard Community Garden

4.00pm             Return to Wynn’s Hotel
