The Five Lamps Arts Festival

The Five Lamps Arts Festival primary commitment is connecting the north inner city of Dublin with the arts and we achieve this through inclusivity, participation, environmental enhancement, and the creation and presentation of locally relevant, artistically ambitious work.

St Anne’s Pocket Park

A Pocket Park for Everyone. Built in Spring 2016 by the Community. Find out how the park was created, why, and how such a small piece of green space improved the community around it.

White Cane Audio Theatre

Sightless Cinema is audio theatre or radio drama devised by blind and visually impaired people with theatre deviser Ciarán Taylor. Sightless Cinema is presented with surround sound in cinemas, but with no pictures. Blind and sighted audiences share an experience without need for mediation.

Ciarán gives a behind the scenes tour of the history of the Theatre, how the audio productions are made, and how they are presented. He also talks about their recent productions and what they’re working on next.

The Fountain Resource Group

The Fountain Resource Group (FRG) is a non-profit community organisation providing a range of free community services in the Dublin 8 area. They employ an Enterprise Officer who provides advice and guidance to entrepreneurs.

Through the Community Employment Programmes, they employ upwards of forty people, working in carefully identified niches in the community.

They facilitated the establishment of an adult education programme in conjunction with the local schools and other providers in the South West Inner City.

A citizen information office was established by them to help local people with their needs, they publish a local digital newspaper, and assist the Senior Citizens with handling of their administration and employment of a mini-bus driver.

Finglas Addiction Support Team (FAST)

The Finglas Addiction Support Team (FAST) was set up by a group of volunteers from the Finglas community who realised that there were limited services for drug users and family members in the area. Since 2004, the service has grown and developed rapidly. In 2011 we moved to a purpose built building on Wellmount Road, Finglas.

Through fostering belief in the person’s potential for change and focusing on the value they have as people, we have witnessed individuals emerging from isolation and despair into able, confident people realising their ability to participate in their families and their communities.

Brian Mitchell, Amy Roche, and others in FAST talk about the work they do in the community and the types of services they offer. One of the participants in the programmes also speaks about his experiences.

Voice of Vision Impairment

The VVI is Ireland’s national representative organisation for visually impaired people, specifically focusing on our rights and needs from a visually impaired perspective. In this, we are part of a wider movement of what are known as Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs).

All VVI members and representatives have a visual impairment, and since we are not a service-provider, we use our expertise to represent the interests and needs of all visually impaired service-users.

We also very much welcome members who have other impairments as well as being partially sighted or blind, and our policies are very much influenced by the particular needs arising from combinations of visual impairment with other impairments.
