What is a DPO?

On 23 June, Peter Kearns from the Independent Living Movement of Ireland (ILMI) delivered an online workshop for individuals interested in establishing a Dublin City Disabled Persons Organisation (DPO).

The presentation slides from this session are available below.

During the June session, Peter explained what defines a DPO. Unlike disability service providers, DPOs are led by and for disabled people, operating across all types of impairments and grounded in a rights-based approach.

The online session on 23 June was a follow up to the May session, which was part of Inclusion and Integration week.

The next Dublin City DPO workshop will take place in person on Thursday, 8 September, from 11:30am to 1:00pm, at an accessible city centre venue (to be confirmed). Peter and team aim to offer this session in a hybrid format to allow for both in-person and online participation. If you would like further details about this session, please contact either Peter or Mick Keegan, directly.
