PPN Bulletin

General Information

The PPN host, Dublin City Volunteer Centre (DCVC), is reaching out to organisations who might need extra hands at any upcoming events or gatherings. The Community Volunteers programme can bring a pool of dedicated and trained volunteers to assist with a multiplicity of tasks related to event volunteering. Along with their cohort of trained volunteers, the Community Volunteers programme offers the dedicated time of a professional volunteer manager on the day. Jess and Tess will recruit, train and brief their volunteers ahead of the event, taking hours of time and worry off the plate of event organisers. On the day, skilled volunteers will bring professionalism, energy and enthusiasm to any task. You can find more information about the programme here. The Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC), would like PPN member groups to know about “Climate Actions Work”, which is a national programme of engagement on climate action that will involve funding and resources, and you can find out more about the programme here.

Dublin City Council recently held an open submission to find out what PPN member groups thought about its digital strategy. One PPN member group, DCTV, made the following submission.  Brian Greene, of DCTV, kindly agreed to share their submission to other PPN member groups so that others might learn from, and reflect on “how to make a submission”, with the hope that more groups will be empowered to make submissions, in the future.  You can read DCTV’s submission here.

Dublin City Council (DCC) would like to let PPN member groups know that its Crowdfund Dublin City FUND is open.  Working with community fundraising platform, SpaceHive, DCC offers an exciting opportunity for Dublin City residents to fundraise and deliver projects that matter to them:  further information here.

Sanctuary Runners would like to share its Global Solidarity Run information on Saturday 19 October, the hashtag to follow is #GlobalRun2024 and the 5 km run is to show solidarity with those living through forced displacement and extreme poverty.

Ballyfermot College of Further Education (BDFE) is offering a traineeship in Applied Politics and Leadership, which will equip participants with essential practical skills in politics, community organisation and advocacy.  Details here.

Mercy Law Resource Centre are offering a Fundamentals in Housing Law Training and details of these open training sessions can be accessed here.

Central Statistics Office Ireland (CSO) are running a pilot survey in order to prepare for the next census in 2027.  To get involved in this important work, go here.

Turn2me are offering a support group for migrants living in Ireland.  This group is an online support group, to help migrants share challenges, build resilience and connect with others who understand their experiences.  More information here.

Friends of the Earth have a climate action regional gathering in Dublin on 14 September from 11.00am – 2.00pm in the Teachers’ Club; registration here.

Protect Kenilworth Square is a campaign to stop redevelopment plans for Kenilworth Square has been launched and PPN member groups are invited to read more about the work here.

Open Consultations

Fingal County Council have asked Dublin City PPN members to participate in a consultation on their airport noise action plan.  You can share your views and get involved here.

Updates from the Secretariat and Representatives

Dublin City PPN Secretariat met on 10 September and agreed the minutes from the last monthly meeting, held in June 2024. 

The nomination forms for new representatives will be sent via email to all member groups, within the next few days.
