Dublin City Council (DCC) are pleased to announce “Brigit: Dublin City Celebrating Women” from 31 January – 03 February 2025. There are more than 80 events taking place across Dublin City offering an exciting and diverse celebration of women’s contributions to culture, society and history. Dublin City Council (DCC) are also pleased to announce the Dublin Literary Award Longlist has been announced. The longlist features 71 books from 83 libraries from 34 countries around the world. You can read through the longlist here. Every year, a longlist is created of nominated books from invited public libraries in cities around the world. A shortlist of 10 is selected, and one winner is announced in a ceremony during the International Literature Festival, in Dublin. You can read more here.
PPN Member Group, All Together in Dignity (ATD), are recruiting a motivated person to join their small and dynamic team for a three month internship. ATD’s mission is to eradicate persistent poverty by working with people with lived experience of poverty and learning from each other, what change is needed. PPN Member Group, Tog Hackerspace, invite you to a Repair Café on Sunday 19 January at Kylemore Road Unit 1B, D12 CF6V. You can bring clothes, accessories, toys, small electrical appliances or electronics or small furniture to be fixed, which can support the circular economy by extending the lifespan of these belongings. The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS), desperately need your blood. If you can give blood, please book an appointment to donate here. If you are not sure if you can donate blood or not, please do the “New Donor Eligibility Test” here PPN staff are currently making appointments to give blood and we will update you in next week’s Bulletin!
The Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD) would like to share a snapshot of the year, for 2023, with PPNs across the country. You can access the snapshot here. The full annual report for 2023, is currently in the design and translation stage and will be published as soon as possible in the coming weeks and refers to all 31 PPNs across the country.
Rosaleen McDonagh, a playwright from the Traveller Community and a disability activist, wrote an interesting article for the Journal this week, in which she states that the new Programme for Government, needs to “go beyond vacuous speechifying” and you can read the full piece in The Journal, here.
Training and Events
The Wheel welcome you to their new “Skills Matter” newsletter, which is a digest of skills and training opportunities relevant to the nonprofit sector. This newsletter is packed with useful links to grants, and training programmes and provides a one-stop-shop for all the skills updating tools, a PPN member group could need.

Dublin City Council (DCC), are offering PPN member groups with over 10 members an opportunity to participate in Adult Cycle Training, which will include learning how to use a bike to commute, bike sharing, greenway routes and safety tips. You can find out more about this training, here.
Updates from the Secretariat and Representatives
The PPN Secretariat meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 6.30pm – 8.30pm to ensure the network meets its strategic objectives and is implementing the activities set out in the annual workplan. Last night (Tuesday 14 January 2025), was the first meeting of the year, and many plans for the year were put in place: of note, the Secretariat agreed the minutes from the November meeting, which you can read here. The PPN Secretariat were particularly excited about the PPN’s new plan this year, of having three working groups to correspond to the three pillars within the PPN: that is, the Community and Voluntary Pillar, the Social Inclusion Pillar and the Environmental Pillar. And you will be hearing a lot more about these exciting working groups soon…
