Environmental News

Our Energy Future is a Friends of the Earth workshop from 12 – 5.00pm (in person), on 16 June.  How can Ireland deliver a pro-active and inclusive response to the energy price crisis while supporting communities in the energy transition?  Register for the free event here.

The Department of Environment, Climate and Communications would like to invite you to partner in this year’s Climate Conversations.  The Department are asking PPN groups to host focus group discussions, and report back with findings and recommendations by 30 June.

This can be done informally in meetings already arranged, or else set up as stand-alone sessions.  The Department has a list of questions and a feedback form, and if you want to join in, please email Ruth for the worksheets, to help you facilitate the conversations.

Hopefully, several PPN groups would like to get involved in this.

News from the wider PPN

One of the (many) excellent workshops in our PPN/DCU Summer School was with Rita Sharkey, from Reflection Training.  Rita would like us to share her resources on managing stress and anxiety, with the PPN.  Please feel free to share these videos with your groups and networks:  here

Ciarán Taylor, your Arts Representative, would like to tell you more about “In the Dark”.  This is an “immersive surround sound experience, where the audience can wear blindfolds, and all the sound effects are created live.  They are stories of adversity, adventure and determination”.  The play takes place in Rua Red theatre on 22, 23 & 25 June and you can buy tickets here:

PPN National Network Insurance Information Session

On 17 May, the National PPN Network hosted an information session for PPN member groups on insurance.  The session was delivered by Peter Boland from the Alliance for Insurance Reform, and Nick Ryan from BHP.  Our colleagues in Sligo PPN have uploaded the recordings for you here

Public Consultations and Campaigns

You can find out all about the open and ongoing public consultations with Dublin City Council here.  You never need to miss a DCC consultation again!

Realt na Mara is a proposed offshore wind development located in the Irish Sea, off the coast of counties Dublin and Wicklow.  It is envisaged that the project could generate up to 1.6 Gigawatts of clean renewable energy, enough to power up to 1.5 million Irish homes per annum.  Feedback from the PPN members is sought at this stage of the project and you can find out more about the proposal here:

ADT Ireland would like you to join their #addthe10th campaign.

This is a campaign to add “socio-economic discrimination” into Irish equality legislation in the Equal Status Act, and the Employment Equality Act.  Currently, there are nine grounds for discrimination, and this is a campaign to #addthe10th

More on the campaign here, and if you would like to take a photo of yourself and post on Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #addthe10th and tagging @dublincityppn we will “re-post” and “re-tweet” and “like!”

PPN Events

Last Thursday of the Month Member’s Meet-Up:  30 June (online)

Robert Moss, your climate action, environment, and energy SPC representative, will give a presentation on rainwater harvesting.  Did you know that about 25% of domestic water usage goes down the loo?  What if, we could use rainwater, to flush our toilets, instead of using treated water?  How would that look, what would be the benefits, and how can we make a start?  Come along to the zoom on 30 June to find out more, and network with other PPN groups and organisations.

Email Ruth for the Zoom link.

This year’s Festival of Fundraising will take place from 26 September – 29 September and will be a mix of one-to-one fundraising clinics and workshops with Kevin Delaney of Academy Street Workshop.  There will be an additional grant writing workshop, an intercultural fundraising session, and a “live” fundraising activity, for one PPN organisation, for participants to watch and learn from during the week.

Understanding Life in Ireland:  A Well-being Framework

The Government published a second report on Ireland’s wellbeing recently, to help improve our understanding of the quality of life in Ireland and measuring how well we are doing overall as a country.  It does this by looking at the economic, societal, and environmental impacts, with a focus on equality and sustaining wellbeing under one framework.  You can read the report here.

Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) meetings

If you would like to see your elected representatives in action and would like to learn more about what goes on in the SPC meetings, you can watch the meetings live or recorded here:  minutes from meetings and other resources are shared on this platform.

You can see a full list of your Dublin City PPN representatives here.
