PPN Bulletin

Many thanks to everyone who got involved with the PPN’s Festival of Fundraising this week, especially to Kevin Delaney of Academy Street Workshop, Joy Eniola of Dublin City Council, Frances Hayden of Dublin City Volunteer Centre, Sinead Christian of the Irish Wheelchair Association, and Helen McVeigh of the Irish Hospice Foundation.  It was a very enjoyable and interesting week, and we hope those who came along to the daytime and evening online and offline sessions, found it useful.

Information

The PPN is currently recruiting for a Support Worker, and we would be very grateful if you could share the details of the job advertisement with colleagues in your groups, and networks.  The full details are here

Likewise, we would be happy if you would also share the details of an open tender, we have for a consultant to develop a “how to” manual and deliver training on the manual, for our Representatives and Secretariat.  The full details are here and the closing date for both applications is Monday 03 October.

TCD are recruiting for mentors for their underrepresented students.  Would you like to join this programme and be a mentee?  They have extended the application deadline, and so all are welcome to apply to support communities through mentoring:  more information here.

Social Justice Ireland provided an analysis and critique of Budget 2023 through a written publication and a recorded seminar here   There is a breakdown of the changes for the voluntary, community, social inclusion and environmental organisations in Ireland.  Social Justice Ireland stated that they welcomed “the increases in many of these areas, these are mostly small to moderate increases, which will struggle to meet demand,” (page, 19).

Training

Dublin City Volunteer Centre invite you to their Volunteer Leadership Training programme and full details of the modules, cost (including a discounted rate for community groups), here.  This course covers topics such as: planning for volunteer involvement, volunteer engagement, day-to-day volunteer management, dealing with challenging situations and volunteer policy development.  The course is on zoom.

The Wheel is supporting EIRGRID in running a series of Energy Citizens Roadshows, across Dublin throughout October.  The five free events are open to everyone in your community to find out how EIRGRID is shaping the future of energy in your area, in line with Ireland’s climate targets.  You can find out more about the dates and times here.  Please also keep your eyes on our Last Thursday of the Month Members’ Meet-Up in October, for a session with Jamie Moore from Eirgrid.  Further details to come.

Connect the dots would like to invite you to their Cop On Festival, which is a climate action festival of music, art, talks and workshops on October 14 – 15 and further details about this festival are here.

The Charities Regulator invite you to a webinar on 04 October, from 1.00pm – 1.45pm to assist your charity in preparing and submitting your annual report.  This webinar will also include guidance on confirming your charity’s compliance with the Charities Governance Code and you can find out more about the session here.

The PPN Disability Thematic Group would like to bring your attention to #MakeWayDay

#Makewayday is a public awareness event to highlight the needs of people with disabilities in the public space we all share.  “Hey, this blocks my way!” is the message, so on Friday 30 September, obstacles that block are the way are highlighted.  You can find out how to get involved here.

The Disability Thematic Group meet online every second Monday of the month, and meet to discuss issues and concerns that affect the disabled community within the PPN.  If you would like to attend a meeting, please email Ruth for the Zoom invite, or you can follow the Disability Thematic Group on their Facebook page here:
