Operation Tombola combats the illegal importation, sale and use of fireworks through a nationwide policing plan focused on the prevention and detection of the sale of fireworks and associated public order and anti-social behaviour issues during the Halloween period. Ahead of the 2026 campaign, Dublin City PPN’s member group, Voice of Vision Ireland, (VVI), issued the following statement:
“Apart from it being illegal for an individual to use fireworks in Ireland, fireworks cause distress for assistance dogs, including guide dogs, as well as their visually impaired owners. Assistance dogs cannot assist when they are frightened or anxious. In other words, when assistance dogs are petrified by fireworks, they cannot function as assistance dogs, and their visually impaired owner loses their independence, because they are forced to stay at home. Please help us spread the word that a little consideration goes a long way. Enjoyment can be had without disrupting the lives of others. Enjoyment can be had without personal fireworks experiences”.
PPN Member Group, Social Justice Ireland (SJI), invite you to complete the following survey on “barriers to accessing bank accounts for small community groups” here. This survey is to better understand how community groups access basic financial services and to discover where the gaps may exist. The survey is quick, anonymous and open to everyone, and SJI would be very grateful if you could share with the other people in your groups and networks.
