PPN Bulletin

General Information

Once again, we repeat the statement from PPN member group, Voice of Vision Ireland about illegal fireworks in Dublin City at this time of year.  VVI said, “Apart from it being illegal for an individual to use fireworks in Ireland, fireworks cause distress for assistance dogs, including guide dogs, as well as their visually impaired owners. Assistance dogs cannot assist when they are frightened or anxious. In other words, when assistance dogs are petrified by fireworks, they cannot function as assistance dogs, and their visually impaired owner loses their independence, because they are forced to stay at home.  Please help us spread the word that a little consideration goes a long way. Enjoyment can be had without disrupting the lives of others. Enjoyment can be had without personal fireworks experiences”.

The HSE Dublin and northeast would like to share an opportunity for PPN member groups to join their regional Patient and Service User Council, which is a group of patients, service users, family members and staff from HSE Dublin and north east, to make a positive change in the health system.  More information can be downloaded here.

Volunteer Ireland ask as many PPN member groups as possible complete the survey below, about home support for older people in Ireland.  The future of home care matters to all of us.  Getting support right, can make an enormous different to an older person’s independence, dignity and ability to remain in their own home.  It is essential that decisions about these services are informed by the people who use them and understand what works and what needs to change.  Please complete and share the survey here.
