Kelley Bermingham is from St Patrick’s Cathedral, which is in the Community and Voluntary pillar of the PPN, and Kelley sits on the PPN Secretariat and on the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC).
Kelley would like to share the following update with the wider PPN, about a recent LCDC meeting.
There were two presentations at the committee, which were very interesting. One was from the Community Safety Partnership and one from Sean McCabe, from the Bohemians community wealth building programme. Other updates included looking at the LCDC annual report, the SICAP funding, community development programme and the local enhancement programme update.
The LCDC’s main function, is to implement the Local Economic Community Plan (LECP) to try and increase the quality of life, for people in Dublin City. This LECP sets out a plan, of how communities can thrive under the direction of the council and the work of all the community workers and supporters across the city. The plan is also a place, where communities can see their own priorities mentioned and drawn out, so that the council can allocate funding and supports to the groups and organisations that most need it.
The PPN has three main objectives; to share information and training, so that the 1000 member groups can participate more in Dublin City council decision making. To this end, the PPN has 20 Representatives sitting on different committees in the council and there are 5 Representatives on the LCDC. This is a wonderful opportunity for the Representatives to offer advice and assistance to the elected councillors and council executive, who also sit on this committee.
The PPN is extraordinarily grateful to all the time, expertise and knowledge Kelley shares with her LCDC colleagues and her Secretariat colleagues as well.
