Dublin City PPN: Strengthening Community Voices

The Dublin City Public Participation Network (PPN) is a vibrant hub for community engagement, bringing together organisations across Dublin to collaborate, share ideas, and influence local decision-making. Established under the Local Government Reform Act 2014, the PPN aims to amplify the voices of community and voluntary groups, environmental organizations, and social inclusion initiatives, ensuring they have a direct line to policymakers.

What Is Dublin City PPN All About?

At its core, the PPN is about partnership and participation. Its mission is to connect local groups with Dublin City Council and other agencies, ensuring that community perspectives are heard and valued in shaping policies and programs. This includes everything from housing and transport to sustainability and inclusivity.

The PPN operates on three main objectives:

Participation and Representation: Empowering community members to engage with and influence local governance.

Information Sharing: Acting as a bridge, sharing updates from Dublin City Council with member groups and vice versa.

Capacity Building: Offering training and resources to strengthen the skills and effectiveness of member organizations.

How Is It Structured?

Dublin City PPN is built around three thematic pillars:

Community & Voluntary Groups: Local initiatives working to improve daily life in Dublin.

Social Inclusion: Organisations advocating for marginalised groups and promoting equality.

Environmental Groups: Networks committed to protecting and enhancing Dublin’s natural environment.

Member organisations elect representatives to participate in various committees, such as Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs), where they can directly shape policies on housing, climate action, and more.

A Big Year for Representation

2024 has been an exciting year for Dublin City PPN, marked by the nomination of new representatives to key roles. These reps serve on committees addressing crucial issues like transport, the environment, and community development. Their role is to bring grassroots perspectives into council discussions, ensuring that decisions reflect the needs and ambitions of Dubliners.

Why get more involved?

Being part of the PPN isn’t just about attending meetings; it’s about being part of a movement for change. Whether you’re a local sports club, a disability advocacy group, or a climate action organization, the PPN offers a platform to amplify your voice, network with like-minded groups, and access training to maximise your impact.

Get Involved

If you’re part of a group that cares about Dublin’s future, now is the time to join the PPN, or get more involved in its core work. Membership is free, and the benefits are enormous—whether it’s gaining insight into council plans, contributing to strategic policies, or simply finding a network of passionate, proactive individuals.
